Give The Wrong Words An Inch And They May Take A Mile!

What do you do when circumstances seem out of control? What's the first thing you look for? Or Whom? What immediately runs through your mind? Do you yell? Do you curse? Do you go bow up your back like a porcupine getting ready for all out war?

By Word Of Mouth!

There is something that every one of us has been taught to do since we were born and yet so few people know how to control it. We have been taught how to talk, but still don't know how to control our mouth.

Getting control of your mouth is no harder than learning how to ride a bicycle; you just need to learn how. Sadly though, most people just let the words fly as their circumstances get hotter than a nanny goat in a pepper patch.

I can hear someone now: "what's my words got to do with my circumstances?" Everything! Remember when you were trying to learn how to ride that bicycle? Who was it that had the power to ride it or crash it? You! Controlling your tongue is no different.

Your mouth has more to do with the success or failure in your life than you may realize. No one else can do your talking for you, no one else can determine whether you crash or ride.

Caught Red-handed!

Let me give you some Vegas-ology, and I really believe this. Most people go through their lives, day by day, just hoping nothing bad will happen to them that day. And, if it does, maybe it won't be so bad that I can't handle it, at least without much stress.

Then when something squirrelly happens, they go ballistic. Then they start saying, "why me God," "what did I do?" Then they start praying, then they start crying, and then they get real humble.

Well, guess what? Remember earlier when I said we spend all our lives learning how to talk and never learn how to control the thing we talk with? That's where the problem lies. We spend years and years responding the same way to calamity, which just fills us with fear, worry, doubt and unbelief.

And, when an abundance of fear and worry root its way down into our spirits it overflows out of our mouth. Just like falling off a log.

Hear Me Now, Believe Me Later!

Now, when those words fly out of our mouth, our brain hears it; our emotions soak them up like a sponge; we start feeling like a our whole life is a square peg in a round hole, and, then the worst possible thing happens; we start acting on the words of fear.

When we start acting on words of fear, we start a cycle of worry and depression. And, the cycle keeps repeating itself. A few moments of remorse, during our heartbreak, will just not reverse years and years of using an uncontrolled tongue.

Why do these things happen? Because of spiritual laws! We determine what happens to us by putting spiritual laws into motion through the words that we speak out of our mouths. If this makes your feathers ruffle, don't get mad at me, I didn't design the system. I wish I had.

To go a step further in understanding how our mouths determine the direction of our lives, we need to understand how these spiritual laws work. To simplify this we can say there are two spiritual forces that we have to contend with.

Live And Learn!

Let's call these laws the law of success and the law of defeat. Another way to put it is; the law of life and the law of death. These spiritual laws do not work by happenstance. They don't work one way one time and another way another time.

You can't say something positive one time and have those same words mean something negative next time. That's craziness and the system doesn't work that way. By the same token, you can't talk words of fear, failure, defeat, sickness, poverty, and death, and expect the opposite of those things to happen to you.

Everyday we are putting these two laws to work in our lives either knowingly or ignorantly. But, either way they are at work to bring about the results or circumstances that correspond to the words we speak.

You may be wondering; if all this is true, why do I then always end up shooting myself in the foot? Why don't I say the things that will bring me success and deliverance? Why does the wrong junk always fly out of my mouth?

Glad You Asked!

Programming! You need to be de-bugged. Be nice to me now. We end up exercising the law that has been programmed into us, over the years of our life, through our five physical senses.

In other words, whatever is in your heart in abundance will come out your mouth in waves. Now, whatever is in your heart, did not just hop in there and take up residence. You installed it in there through years and years of talking and saying the wrong stuff.

Now if you've been saying the right stuff, congratulations. I'm sure the law of success is following you. But, if you feel that everything in your life is as ugly as a mud fence then I've got some good news.

You can turn it around starting today. And, I don't care if you are a hundred and fifteen years old, you can make dramatic changes in the next thirty days.

More Powerful Than A Locomotive!

It was the words of your mouth that installed the fear in your heart and the words of your mouth can install faith in there to take its place. When you place the laws of success in your mouth, then good circumstances will follow.

What many people don't understand or forget is that unless you continue to exercise the law of success everyday, you will fall back into the law of defeat by default. It's just waiting there for a good opportunity to clean your clock.

Why? Because we live in a physical world that is dictated by our physical senses. If we want our physical world to begin favoring us with the good things that are available, then we need to make adjustments in our physical senses to work in harmony with the laws of success and life.

The physical world has no favorites. It will give up, although not easily, all its resources to anyone with the right formula. Just like H20 makes water, put the right formula to work and you can expect some good things to happen.

Make No Bones About It!

Put the wrong formula to work and you will just go through life everyday hoping nothing bad happens that day. You'll be a victim instead of a victor.

These two laws affect everybody, no one is exempt. They work by the same set of rules, which are the words we speak. They each have their own agenda to bring to pass. Start today and decide to live by the law of success and life, you'll be glad you did.

Getting To The Top By Fits And Starts

I would venture to believe that most people have the qualities to make them a success. Then why are not more of them successful? One observation is; by not following through on actions that they started with. They have victory in sight and then do you want to know what they do?

Settle For Mediocrity!

Have you ever known someone who was full of immediate action with no ultimate purpose? Their body is moving, their hands are busy, but their destination is unclear! Even when their actions apparently seem right, they show they're not fully aware of where they're going.

Since they're not really sure of where they're going, they settle for something less than what they started after. Here's an example: You decide you need to get some area of your life under control. Maybe you decide you need to stop worrying. And, that's a good thing. That's a very worthy goal to pursue.

So, you begin to read good motivational books, you listen to good motivational tapes and you're busy as you can be to get this worry bug under your foot. But, all the time you're doing this, there is a nagging thought in your head that says; "what if it doesn't work this time?"

A Rotten Apple Will Spoil The Barrel!

In affect, what you're doing is; tearing down worry on one side and building up fear on the other. If someone says to you, how are you coming along with eliminating worry? You say, "Yes, it's going great!" And then you say, but, you know I heard they are going to be laying off a lot of people at the plant and I'm afraid I may lose my job.

What have you done? You showed "worry" the door, and invited fear in to play footsy with you. And, believe it; fear will cause just as much havoc as worry. They both come from the bottomless pit, and have no business in our thoughts.

Listen, even if they are going to lay off a bunch of people at your plant, you can't do a thing about it by fearing it or worrying about it. If it happens, deal with it then; NOT NOW!!

And, don't tell yourself you can't stop worrying because it is too serious of a matter and could devastate your livelihood. !

For Crying Out Loud!

If you believe that then you're saying that nothing bad has ever happened to you without you first giving it a real good dose of worry before it happened.

I tell you right now; many lousy troubles have happened to me, right out of the blue, and I never spent ten seconds worrying about them beforehand. I didn't even know about them. The point is: if troubles are going to happen anyway, we need to know how to deal with them. And, worry and fear is not the way to do it.

Every Dog Has Its Day!

You have never fixed anything in your life by worrying about it. If it got better, it's not because you worried about it; it's more than likely because you didn't settle for mediocrity and insisted on full victory. And, sometimes good things just happen. Hallelujah!

Now you can understand why some people's actions seem directionless at times. They put all their efforts towards eliminating one obstacle while setting up another. They're like the proverbial "unstoppable object hitting the immovable object." And, then on the way to success, they stop somewhere short and settle for whatever is there at the time.

Most of the time, you can be relatively sure, it was some emotion that stopped them short. It was an emotion that started them and it will be an emotion that stops them. Emotions are a funny thing: They can fuel us with enough fire to leap tall buildings, and at the same time, make us feel like it won't happen until pigs fly.

A Fine Kettle Of Fish!

What a revolting development. What do we believe? What do we do? No wonder some people seem directionless in their pursuit of their goals. No wonder some people just settle for mediocrity in mid stream just to satisfy those conflicting emotions and shut them up. And, it's a pretty good way to boast success since we didn't follow through to see what would ultimately happen.

I'm thinking of too many times in my life as a young man that I stopped in mid stream to take what ever was there and stop the feelings that kept saying; "if you keep going you might not get it; better take what you got now." You know that ole saying, "a bird in the hand?"

I didn't want to hear that bird in the hand crap. My head said that to me so many times I was beginning to feel as lucky as the only man in a women's prison with a fist full of pardons. Talk about directionless; and settling for mediocrity.

Ah! That's Where The Rub Is!

The problem is: someone can get into a habit of "settling", and then that's the real source of the directionless and out of control life. As long as we live in this world, we will have opportunities to "settle" for something of mediocrity.

The more we "settle" the more of a habit it becomes and the more we sub-consciously start expecting a "settling point." We don't think about it and we certainly don't start out with the intention of finding a place to settle. But, when it shows up, and the "bird in the hand" voices start their song and tap dance on our forehead, we say, I know when to hold em, and I know when to fold em, and its time to fold em.

The point is: it's not a bad thing to fold em if you can walk away ahead in the game. But, if it becomes an ingrained habit then the folding point will start showing up earlier and earlier till you find yourself folding right after the start.

Get To The Bottom Of It!

How do you know when to fold? This is not rocket science. It's pretty simple really. Ask yourself a couple of key questions. Can I walk away ahead? Has this thing given me something of value? And most important; has something else presented itself in my life that I can replace this with?

For me, if any one of these three questions are "no", then I'm not ready to fold em; especially the last one.

Would you like to know why we settle for something less? This is not really difficult to understand but it might be hard to accept. So pay attention, and at least give this some serious thought. Don't let the simplicity of it get away from you. The reason is, we don't know "how" to fix it.

If we knew how, we would keep going. If we knew what to do, there would be no need to settle. If we knew what was going to happen in every circumstance, we would not worry! We would never worry. Think about it. The lack of knowledge.

Full Steam Ahead, Just Don’t Go Off Half Cocked!

Do you do things that you don’t want to do? Do you not do things that you do want to do? Do you find every reason in the book to delay what needs to be done? Would you like to know the secret of getting things done? Then hang on tight, cause this buds for you.

How do you make the secret of getting things done an everyday part of your life? It’s done by a nasty word…habit. Ok then, how do I develop a habit? Another dirty word; by repetition. Plant a cotton seed and you’ll grow cotton. Plant a habit or action and you’ll grow a habit.

Here it is: The Naked Truth!

Sow a good habit and you’ll grow a good character. Sow a good character and you’ll grow a great destiny. Bend over backwards to help others and you’ll be the first with the most all the time. Sow insult to injury and you’ll go off half-cocked.

Oh.. But you hurt my feelings. Nah!! That ole dog won’t hunt. So, there’s no sense in you putting him in your pick-up. Don’t you get mad at me now.

Listen; we all become what our habits make us. And, we all choose our own habits. Either consciously or unconsciously by repetition we become what our habits dictate. The nice thing is: we can go full steam ahead when it comes to developing desirable habits.

Here is a good way to develop a favorable habit. Program you brain to make an affirmation. One that I have used for many years is the affirmation, “Do it Now.” And then act as soon as your subconscious flashes that affirmation to your consciousness.

Swallow your pride!

Here is an example: Next time your stomach says, “Eat that second piece of pie”, and you “hips” say, put it back, you say, “Do it Now.” Get it?

This has held me in good stead for many unpleasant tasks that I would really just as soon put off as long as I could. You know things like baby sitting and changing dirty diapers. I mean hey, changing dirty diapers is way down on my list of things to do,…right next to snake hunting. Hehehe.

Well, I didn’t coin the phrase “Do it Now”, but I have used it for many years. And, it is very important that you take action as soon as you say it. The action is what causes this to become repetitive. That’s why you should only use this for a good and desirable habit you’re trying to develop. Half-Cocked habits can be just as destructive as good habits can be productive.

Quick As A Lick!

Immediately act as soon as your subconscious flashes this affirmation to your conscious. Make it an everyday practice. Then in times of emergency, when you really need to take immediate action, the good habits that you developed will come to your aid.

If you will begin using this self motivator with little things it will become easier to get things done in big matters later on.

This will help you to act when opportunities come your way and not just sit there batting your eyes like a toad frog in a hail storm. That frog may have very powerful legs to jump to safety, but the dumb frog just sits there.

And, how many times have we seen “our” opportunity come along, I mean it had our name written all over it. It was everything we had envisioned it would be, just like we had planned, it looked just like we knew it would look, we could even taste it. And, what do we do? Sit there like a frog.

And, if someone should ask us, “Why are you just sitting there?” We might not answer in these words but this is what it comes down to, we start thinking like a stupid frog. And, we think that since we don’t have wings we’re going to bump our litte bu** when we land. Geeze…”All good things come to those who wait”….

We can come up with the most reasonable sounding excuses for sitting there. Of course, we don’t call them excuses because that would make us look like we’re gold bricking. We call them rational prudence, or some other stupid Froggy line, so that everyone will think we are so intelligent.

A Force You Better Reckon With!

Not doing the things we need to do habitually creates a strong pattern of procrastination. It causes people to miss planes, be late for work, and sometimes can cause very serious catastrophes in our lives. Ideas can be forgotten and opportunities lost that could change our lives for the better.

History has recorded great battles that were lost because someone hesitated when the time had come to take a desirable action. I talk to people all the time and the common theme of habits that most people would like to eliminate is procrastination.

And, my favorite secret that I tell all of them is in the title of this article. Use the affirmation “Do It Now”, and go full steam ahead. Just be sure you are going for the gold and not going off half-cocked.

This Is As Good As It Gets!

When things begin getting done in you life you will sense a re-invigorating of you attitude. It will cause circumstances to go from negative to positive. It will cause the darkest of nights you have ever spent to become a new and pleasant day.

Notice how this young man took a terrible dark night and turned it into a beautiful day. Jorgen was a young man from Denmark who wanted to visit America. He had saved and made the trip to Washington DC. All the money he had was in cash and after he checked into his hotel room he noticed his wallet was missing.

Thousands of miles from his home country and not having any family or close friends here he had no way of getting more money. His hotel was pre-paid and he still had his plane ticket home.

So, those two items were not a concern. He had two choices. One he could be happy, the other, he could be miserable. He couldn’t make his wallet fall out of heaven so the only thing he could do is tell himself “it’s time to be happy”. And, this he did.

He said I’m the same person I was yesterday before I lost my wallet; I’m going to be the same person tomorrow. I was happy yesterday, I will be happy today. That was Jorgen’s affirmation. He refused to spend his time being unhappy over his loss.

Don’t Just Sit There Like A Bump On A Pickle!

He realized that now is the moment. Now is the time to take action, now is the time to move full steam ahead. There is no tomorrow, only today is promised. So, when you find that it’s your time to go Full Steam Ahead, Don’t start cooling your jets.

From Failure To Victory; The Cat's Out Of The Bag!

Did you ever think that all of the great heroes we read about may not have been particularly great men in and of themselves? They may not have been born with any great skills, talents or abilities. But, each of them did have one special quality that we would all do well to cultivate.

A Tough Nut To Crack!

Because of my passion for recording and singing I've had the opportunity to meet some really famous people. And, one thing I have discovered about these people is that they have a "never say quit philosophy." They have a bull dog tenacity that would make a snapping turtle jealous.

A side thought just in case you have never heard; the saying goes that a snapping turtle, if it bites you, won't let go till it thunders. I don't know if it is true or not and couldn't care less because I don't let snapping turtles bite me. So, back to my point.

Live And Learn!

The stories I have been told by these famous people is sometimes shocking and very inspiring. I won't mention any names but one in particular comes to mind. See if you can relate to this tragedy to triumph.

His passion was for music, as mine is, and during the early years of his struggle, to reach the top, he lived in an apartment with no bathroom. After a short while he got kicked out, which he says was not a big loss; then he lived in a convertible automobile with a leaky top.

He literally and he truthfully swears he lived off of cat food in a can for a year. It took him almost twenty years to have his first number one hit. And, that means twenty years of playing the honky tonks for peanuts with no success any where in sight.

Never Look Back!

His story really made me think; how much do we really want success? How much blood are we willing to give? What kind of a price are you willing to pay for that elusive dream that captivates and mesmerizes you?

For my friend that I've mentioned, there was no price too great, no sacrifice too large, no limits he placed on himself, except for breaking the law, he never crossed that line, but he was willing to pull out all stops to have what he dreamed.

His Goose Is Cooked!

His father even tried to bribe him with money to forget the crazy notion of pursuing music. He decided to stay in his leaky roof convertible and, he said by that time, he had started to like cat food. Yuk! His father said; dumb decision boy!

His father asked him; ok, how long are you going to pursue this? He told his father he had placed a limit on the timeframe and said that it was one hundred years. If he didn't succeed after one hundred years he would quit. His father said; dumb decision boy!

Pinch Me To See If I'm Dreaming!

I tell you this story not to insinuate that this is the kind of life a person must endure in order to have great success. But, to share with you that here was an ordinary person with no extra special gifts, just a never quitting attitude, that caused him to be living his dream today.

If there is any quality that separates the successful person from the failure, it is persistence; Not talent, not ability, not education. And over and over I have been told by some big name people how hard the struggles were to reach the top.

Persistence is like the object in motion. It takes more energy to stop it than for it to continue its course. Starting the object is where most of the energy is used. And, it's the same in pursuing success.

You Can Bet Your Bottom Dollar!

Everyone wants to be a success in life, but unless you make a commitment to never say quit, you will have a lot of opportunities to fail. The comforting thing is; life will never quit on us, it will keep presenting us with opportunities to succeed, many of which will look like you'll be up to your neck in alligators.

You may have a problem now that you've tried and tried to overcome. You many have even said, "I've fought this thing so long." What's the use, I'll never win. I have just one word of encouragement for you: Just remember; "Cat Food!"

When I first decided that I was not meant to work for someone else, a friend gave me a poem that I want to reprint here. The author of this poem is unknown, and I'm sure some of you will have seen it and I'm sure a lot of you haven't. It was an inspiration to me when I first read it and I've kept a plaque of it for many years. The title is; "Don't Quit".

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns, as every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seem slow, You might succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than, it seems to a faint and faltering man, Often the struggler has given up When he might have captured the victor's cup, And, he learned too late when the night came down, How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out, The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. And, you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar, so stick to the fight when you're the hardest hit, It's when things seems worst that you must not quit. (Author Unknown)

Worth Its Weight In Gold!

If you won't quit, your faith in yourself and the goodness of God will see you through. Remember, with you and God, you can turn failure into victory.

Flash!! I Thought I Saw A Puddy Cat!

Have you ever had one of those flashes of inspiration? Have you ever just had one of those "knowings" down in the pit of your stomach? No, I don't mean after a big bowl of beans. That's not what I'm talking about. Ever had something flash across your mind and looked like a puddy cat? Read on and discover what it was.

Flashes of inspiration; how sweet they are. And, they can take different forms. Every one of you, at some time or another, has slapped his/her knee and said, "I see it". "I see it". That was your subconscious talking to you. That's where your Spirit lives. And he knows what the answer is even when you don't.

The reason so many people get so few "flashes of inspiration" is they never spend the time to get to know their best friend. Case in point. In the early part of the last century, there was a scientist who, during his lifetime, developed many inventions.

Flying Cats, What's the world coming to?

He said he got his ideas from flashes of puddy cats. Well, that was his way of explaining them. He would go into a dark room with a table and one chair and turn the lights off and sit, and sit, and sit.

He said he didn't care how long it took; he would wait till he saw flashes of puddy cats. He was waiting on fresh ideas and answers to what ever he was disturbed over. He knew the answer was in his Spirit, he just had to get it out.

I Think That Dude Needs a Rubber Room!

While he was in the room, he applied what he called controlled attention, asking his subconscious to give him the answer to his specific problem. The way he described it, on some occasions the puddy cats didn't come too quickly. On some occasions they were fuzzy, no pun intended. Sometime they would fly like machine gun bullets.

As soon as the ideas began to make sense, he would turn the lights on and write them down. He explained the source of them this way. He said they came from knowledge stored in his subconscious but acquired through personal experience; knowledge of others and, knowledge from the infinite intelligence.

He said when he was sitting, he would tune into one or all three of these sources. He emphasized that he "made" the time to do this because it was so beneficial. He said most people would scoff at this because it would appear to be such a waste of time. Most people would rather struggle and fight because they believe that's the way that great achievements come.

Not to mention they would not want others to think they were a fruit cake.

The author of this article has some personal experience with this concept. Being a student of the subconscious and particularly interested in the powers of the unknown and unexplainable, I began to notice some startling results begin to take place after employing these ideas.

No Fruit Cake For Me!

I want it on record here and now, "I have never seen any puddy cats"!! Not real ones anyway. Maybe some baby elephants, Nah.... I'm kidding. Although I have to admit, I've looked for them. Hehe! Now just what you think if I told you puddy cats went flying through my closet? Yeah, right.

In your quest for answers you may fail. Remember, Success is never final, and failure is never fatal, only staying down is failure. What you are doing here is, "learning to see." Learning to see so that your quest will help you discover something more, something even greater. What is that? The ability to discover answers any time you need them.

Think about this. How would you feel if you knew with any problem that came up in your life, you could find a series of answers? All of them will not be right. Most of them will be garbage. A few of them may be useable. Some of them will look like puddy cats. Yea.... and that's the one we're looking for.

Looks like the 3 Stooges to me!

Be observant, think, look, pay attention, controlled attention, for that's when, who knows, you might see a puddy cat. Here is something I have personally discovered in this process. Pay attention. Many times, not every time, I did not get what I felt was a specific answer to the specific situation at hand.

But, what I got was a direction that appeared to have nothing to do with the problem at hand, but in the end, it was something much more valuable and much greater than I could have ever done through kicking and screaming it into existence.

Learn a lesson from Chris!

Consider this. Christopher Columbus set out to find a way to Asia by traveling west from Spain. That was his goal; that was his definite plan. Well, you know the story. He failed big time. Or, did he? You wouldn't be here if he had succeeded. I believe the infinite wisdom that communicates to our subconscious knew where he should end up. Thank goodness it did.

In many respects, these flashes of imagination could be explained as just an individual brainstorming; i.e.; allowing your imagination to flash ideas from the subconscious to the conscious mind and incorporating the answers to a specific problem. When done, these flashes are examined for value and practicality.

A Good Place to Think!

If you follow my articles you will understand what I'm about to say. I've had people ask me, "Where do you get some of the crazy titles you come up with for your articles"? I tell em "puddy cats". That's where they come from. Although I admit, I'm not always in a closet looking for them. Sometime they come just from watching Gomer Pyle. But, you have to be able to recognize them, when they come, even if you're in your sitting room on your throne.

Every person has the creative ability to do this. It is God given. But, most people just haven't learned to use it. So don't sell yourself short and say "I don't have a puddy cat brain". Yes you do, Sylvester. It is very unlikely that any great mind would have achieved greatness without learning to use the creative abilities of their mind. Discover your puddy cats; they're in there.

Ever Feel Like Your Elevator Is Stuck Between Floors?

What do you do when you make a big mistake? When you fail? When you suffer defeat? When everything just goes wrong? When serious misunderstandings develop with others? When it appears like there is no way out? When solutions to your problems just seem impossible?

A Familiar Location; The Bottomless Pit!

What do you do; do you do nothing and allow the circumstances to push you around? Do you blow your stack? Do you bite the hand that feeds you? Do you become fearful and run away? Do you get your knickers all in a twist? Do you ever feel like your elevator is just stuck between floors?

Or, do you grab the bull by the horns and flatten him like a pancake? Do you turn bad circumstances into advantages just for the sheer joy of it? Do you look at every problem with faith and optimism knowing that positive results can and will be found?

Time To Grind It Out!

Well, I tell you this; if you are the kind of person that always looks for that kind of satisfaction, then you are busier than a one legged man in a bu** kicking contest. But, you knew that quite well.:>)

Here's the reason; that kind of satisfaction only comes from a "seize the bull by the horns attitude." And, that kind of mental attitude doesn't come just from lying around like a fat dog out in the sunshine. An attitude that brings satisfaction is a day by day process to renew the mind to accept and believe that you are a winner. Ah... not a wiener.

I'm going to tell you how your attitude is developed and how to change it; because only your attitude will stick your elevator between floors. Attitudes, whether positive or negative, are developed through self suggestion, and auto suggestion. We talk to ourselves and this forms the attitudes that we embrace.

These attitudes can be very stubborn about changing, whether positive or negative. Attitudes are almost like personalities that think they have rights and eternal privileges. And the moment you go trying to deprive them, you will start an enormous inner conflict that can create emotions you didn't even know you had.

Better Eat Those Words!

Of course, I'm just making analogies but you get the point. Attitudes can only be formed, fed, and nurtured by suggestions in our minds and words that come out of our mouth. So many times we have damaging thoughts that become suggestions and, then recite damaging words, and at the moment, we don't even realize the damage being done.

That's because the damage is done subtly and very gradually with very little observation on our part. If we were fully aware of the long term affects of what was happening, we obviously, would not give free rein to such a tantalizing bottomless pit.

If someone, such as me, should bring up the idea to you that maybe you should be cautious about the words you're saying and thoughts your thinking, most people would look at me like a toad frog batting his eyeballs in a hail storm. I've done it before and it happens too frequently.

Dumber Than Homemade Dirt!

These people have the hardest time understanding how something as simple as words and suggestions could determine their destiny; because they think in terms of results and circumstances. They think in terms of where they are right now and for the life of them they can't understand how changing an attitude could get their elevator moving again.

Remember this. It was your attitude that stuck your elevator and it will be your attitude that gets it moving again. But, a stuck elevator attitude will not help our circumstances to change and, it will not allow us to see the real reason why our elevator is stuck. All we will do is duck the question.

A stuck elevator attitude will resist feeble attempts to change; because it has too. It has been programmed with it's beliefs and conclusions through many years of suggestions and words, of the wrong kind, and it's not going to let some one time half hearted effort undo all the crud it holds to be true. It'll just make you think you never were the sharpest tool in the shed anyway.

Last But Not Least!

Our attitudes are us. But, they can be changed. In fact, in some instances that we find ourselves in, they are the only thing we can change. And, we always have the power to choose the attitude we will exhibit, but not always easy.

To display an attitude, that is not part of our everyday lifestyle causes a certain amount of discomfort. It's strange, it doesn't feel right, and that's where the resistance comes from. It is much easier to go with the flow and continue paddling down the same ole dirty creek of familiar areas.

But, there comes a time when that stuck elevator attitude is recognized for what it is and we decide to change it. Now comes the fun. No big secret here. We can fix our attitude with the same tools that we fouled the thing up: Suggestions and words. I have proven through many coaching sessions with students that any person can dramatically change any attitude in 30 days with some simple techniques.

I don't care how ingrained or how long the beliefs have been whatever they are. You can change them with 30 days of determination and willingness. If you are willing and faithful, you will succeed. Here is your exercise.

You can do this mentally or audibly; I do both. Remember, words and suggestions that we make to ourselves, is what forms our attitudes. Say this audibly when you can and mentally if you can't. I Feel Healthy, I Feel Wealthy, I Feel Terrific!

Put emphasis on each of the key words in the phrases. Do this for 30 days and you will notice a remarkable change in your happiness, your joy, and peace of mind.

Stronger Than A Garlic Milkshake!

If you're doing this mentally, close your eyes and see each of the words entering your mind and flowing down through your body. The amazing thing about this, if you're doing it the way I suggest, you will feel electricity going through your body when you get to the word "Terrific"!

Here's what is happening. Your subconscious is being reprogrammed and attitudes are being changed. Believe me; our minds have an unquenchable thirst and hunger for that word "Terrific" If you have never told yourself, on a regular basis, that you are terrific you are missing one of the most amazing transformations that can take place inside your mind.

Stick To It Like Glue!

Caution: Don't do this ten times and then expect to come busting out of a phone booth with a superman cape on. If you expect that you're just going to be spitting in the wind.

You have spent years feeding your attitude with crud and just saying this ten times and stopping is not going to reverse your polarity. But, with determination and willingness, you will completely change your can't do attitude in thirty days. And then, the new attitude will become a lifestyle.

Either Tame The Bull, Or, You'll Eat The Crow!

A man can stand a lot... as long as he can stand himself. Success is never Final and Failure is never fatal. Only failure to get back up is. The bull is lying to you and leading you down the trail of the pied-piper.

If you want to achieve anything worthwhile in life it is imperative that you approach your bull with an optimistic frame of mind. A positive attitude is the generator that brings all sorts of good things to you.

The bulls in your life will bring the rewards of; grief, disaster, tragedy, disease, death and the like in any person's life with the "devil is after me mind-set".

Did I hear someone say, yea, but the world has given me a raw deal? Did you realize that most people whom have taken a motivational course thought of themselves as a failure when they entered the course?

In a careful study of the reasons people take these courses, a significant pattern has resulted. The reasons they give are a tragic story of the causes of failure.

They say things like, I've never really had a chance to get ahead, my father was an alcoholic, my mother was a prostitute, I was raised on the wrong side of the tracks, I fell in the sewer when I was twelve years old and never could get the smell off. Yuk. Yeah, they say things that crazy.

I Got Shafted!

They are all saying in essence, I got the shaft. They will blame the world, their parents, their dog, they will believe they inherited their failure, and with this type of attitude they are severely handicapped.

When you are right, so will be your world.

Learn a lesson from a kid. I love kid lessons. They are so meaningful. A father was very busy one Saturday morning getting ready for a business meeting Monday morning. His seven year old son Tommy was very hyper and making his father unusually nervous. His father opened a magazine and found a huge picture of the world.

He ripped the picture out and tore in many pieces. He then gave the pieces to Tommy and said, if you can put this world back together, I'll give you a dollar figuring this would take him all day.

Tommy took the pieces of paper and in ten minutes had put the world back together. His father said Tommy how did you do it so fast? Tommy said it was easy. I found a picture of a man on the other side so, I figured if I got the man right the world would be also.

The father learned a great lesson in this. If you are unhappy with your world and want to change it, the place to begin is with yourself. If you are right, your world will be right. When you are right, the problems of your world are never uncontrollable.

You Were Born A Champion!

No matter what challenges you have faced or what obstacles you will face they are insignificant to the one you faced at conception. Because you were born, Victory is built into your genes.

Think about it, every living person has champion written all over them because they made it into this world.

Time to Defeat your Bullies!

Ok, See if this story strikes a nerve. Everyday Ben had to walk home from school by the railroad tracks. Several times a week a neighborhood bully would jump Ben and beat him up. He would scatter his school books and send him home crying.

Ben lived in a state of fear and self defeat. Something always has to happen to break the pattern of defeat. The victory that is always within us will not show itself until we are ready.

Ben's teacher encouraged him to read some books about heroes and champions. Ben really got caught up in some of these books and started seeing himself as the hero in the books he was reading, even dreaming about it at night.

Some months later, Ben was walking the same railroad tracks and saw the bully dart behind a building. He stopped and started to run the other way. Then he remembered the hero in the books he had read and started straight for the bully.

It was a brutal fight. Ben started fighting with such determination that caught the bully by surprise. All of a sudden the bully had a bloody nose, and then a bloody mouth, and then the bully started running.

After the bully ran off, Ben realized he had a bloody nose and bruises all over his body. But he didn't realize it until after the fight was over. It was worth it, it was a great day in Ben's life. In that day, he overcame fear, and self-defeat.

Ben was not physically stronger than he was the last time he got whipped by the bully. Then what was it? Nah.........he wasn't the kid that fell in the sewer and caused that bully to run off holding his nose either. The difference came in Ben changing himself. He stood up in the face of fear and decided he would no longer be pushed around by his bully.

Have you whipped your bully yet? What are your bullies? Have you thought about it? Or, do you just let yourself get all stressed out with nobody to choke?

Choke The Bully!!

Remember this, it is one thing to talk about bull fighting, it is another thing to get in the ring with that bull. Well, I might get a fat lip. So What? The thing can't eat ya! Get in the ring with that bull and say this so loud that every sand flea in West Texas can hear you; NO MORE!! I WILL NOT FEAR!

Down On Your Luck? Here's How You Get Over The Hump!

It's time to put a bad rumor to rest right now. Good things don't happen to you because you have "good luck." And, bad things don't happen to you because you have "bad luck." Well then smart guy, what is it? I'm glad you asked; Read on!

Time For All-Out War!

Somewhere long ago, a rumor got started and spread all over the world that told us, as long as we live in this world, we have to suffer fear, failure and defeat. Here's what I think of that!

Some how or another, we have been presented with a bill of goods that just stinks like a skunk. The rumor says we have no chance to escape, and no hope to change the course of our circumstances. This is a bunch of bull, but it's worked on a lot of people.

It is a shame that so many people are defeated; but, prosperity, health, success and victory are not blessings that are only available for a select few. These ideas were God's plan for all humanity. He never intended for any of us to live under the beggarly elements of this world.

The Burning Question!

You see, there are two forces at work in this earth. One force brings about things that are good and wholesome, and the other force brings about things that are bad and unwholesome. Obviously, everyone wants to be on the good and wholesome side; why do we find ourselves on the bad side so often?

There could be many reasons, but let me point out one that always seems to stick its ugly head up whenever it gets a chance. That is; when we try to create, or expect positive things to come when we are experiencing negative emotions.

Folks, it seldom works. Trying to create positive results using negative emotions is about as effective as a screen door on a submarine. If we recognize that this negative emotion condition is probably hindering us, then it's time to get over the hump.

Negative emotions are subject to certain things. They are influenced by what we see, hear, and say. They are formed in our minds by words that we read, words that we hear, and words that we say.

By Hook Or Crook!

When you are experiencing a low; an anxiety or depression that is causing you worry, I can almost guarantee you that you are thinking about things, reading about things, or looking at things that are causing it.

Listen carefully: Circumstances don't cause worry! Many times the circumstances were disastrous before you even found out about them. But, the instant you found out about them, what happened? Worry!

You felt great just five minutes before you found out. The circumstances are not the problem. I know you think they are, and that's exactly my point. "You are thinking they are."

You are forming thoughts and ideas in your mind to create an escape plan, in case your brain-child fails, to get yourself permanently out of the mess you're thinking about.

Cut To The Quick!

The whole time you're forming this escape plan, you are focused on the circumstances that are causing the negative emotions, which are causing the low. The biggest problem is not the circumstances, it's the negative emotions.

The conclusion of the matter will be whatever it will be. The only thing the negative emotions will do is make you lose your self-esteem and feel lower than a ditch digger. It will make you feel worse than a criminal. You will convince yourself there is no way out.

Here is another problem; when you feel inadequate for the problem, you will not form the right thoughts in your mind to create positive emotions. Whichever emotions you are experiencing, positive or negative, they will tend to perpetuate themselves at the time.

They will grow and grow until you either feel like superman, or lower than whale poop, .

Every Cloud Has A Silver Lining!

The good thing about all this is this. You can change any negative emotion with just the same methods you used to create the monster. Will this change the circumstances? It'll do whatever you believe.

Life is not a formula that always works the same way. By the same token, if you remain in a negative emotional state, still the circumstances can change in your favor. It has happened to me a few times, not many. Also, I have remained in a positive emotional state at times and still saw the circumstances go sour. It's like being ahead thirty to nothing for four quarters and then losing the game in the last ten minutes.

It's just another test. All of life is a test! But, what it did for me was to sharpen my ability to keep my emotions positive. And, believe me; it feels a lot better to be up than stewing in your own juice.

See The Light!

Think about this: Somewhere out in the future, maybe a week, a month, whatever, there is a time that the circumstances will change. You don't know the date and neither does anyone else. But, it's there nevertheless.

So, what have you got to do till then? Wait! Waiting always lasts too long, so if waiting is inevitable, then let's wait with positive emotions. The alternative is to wait with negative emotions, but, either way, you'll wait!

Someone said to me one time, "I don't want to feel up when my circumstances are down." I know it! That's always the way human nature reacts. But, the facts are that it's just not healthy for you to be worried and depressed.

And, you don't have to be. You can feel good whenever you want to mentally. Your emotions are subject to whatever you feed them. So, get a good positive book and start reading it by feeding your mind with words that will charge your emotions with energy.

Here's Half The Battle!

Try this experiment: find a good positive book and only read it long enough to find a paragraph or phrase that really makes you tingle. You know; something that really relates to your current emotional state and then close the book.

Now, whatever that phrase was, sit back, close your eyes and see those very words entering your mind. Let those words hit your forehead like a Mack truck. Don't worry, they won't hurt. :>) Let those words blast inside your mind.

The More The Merrier!

Do it faster and faster. Now, let them flow all down through your body, into your legs are arms. Then do it again. If you will practice this for just five minutes, you'll get the hang of it and can use this technique anytime you want to change your emotional state.

If you decide you don't want to do it, then you need to admit you really like feeling the way you do. Don't get mad at me, but I know, I've been there.

I have used this technique hundreds of times and it changes my emotional state every time. It is truly amazing how my feelings change even though nothing has changed in the circumstances. Emotions are not subject to circumstances, but circumstances can be subject to emotions.

Doubting Your Way To Success!..Ridiculous..Oh?

Ever had a problem with doubts? Ever felt that nagging feeling down in the pit of your stomach that says, "It ain't gonna happen this time"? Have you ever wanted to throw in the towel and just quit? If so, you've experienced having your head full of doubts. Here is the good bad and ugly.

A Horse Of A Different Color!

What is a doubt? It's a state of disbelief or distrust. Well, can disbelieving in our goals and dreams ever be good for us? Have you ever considered this? You can have a doubt without having a doubting way of life.

Put another way; you can have doubt in your head with faith in your heart. In the heat of battle your head can be spinning like a top, jumping up and down, turning flips so fast that if you were doing on the outside what you are doing on the inside your clothes couldn't hold you in.

Hard And Fast Rule!

Having a doubt in your head doesn't make you a doubter. Doubt encourages rethinking of a matter, its purpose is to sharpen your mind rather than to change it. Your doubts can force you to ask yourself a question, look for an answer and then take action.

Doubts should not become a condition that stays with us like stink on a skunk. It's perfectly normal for doubts to come and go. The tendency of doubts is to slow us down and give time for reflection on some issue. It will keep us poised at the starting line ready to blast off, but, there will be no motion till we get the all clear.

Conventional Wisdom!

Our doubts should have a purpose. They should always make us want to learn the truth. Don't ever get too close and buddy up with your doubts. They're natural tendency is to come and go, let em go when they do. Be quick to believe when you find reasons to do so.

If you ever find yourself holding on to nagging doubts after you have uncovered valid reasons to believe, shoot yourself in the foot. Nah, I'm kidding, don't you dare do that. Let your doubts be a way of responding to a situation, not a way of life.

There will be times when you will struggle desperately to be faithful to what you know is true, because your feelings will try to make alphabet soup out of what you know is true. Take encouragement from the fact that everyday millions of people struggle with doubts. You don't have any corner on that market.

Time Will Tell!

Use this as a yardstick to determine if you are idolizing your doubts. Your doubts should be honest and always directed toward a solution that you can believe; not, settling into them for the winter. And, remember this, it is better to doubt out loud than to believe in silence.

Force yourself to verbalize your doubts so you can hear what you are saying. Doing that may make you want to give yourself a good swift kick in the rear. You may find that what you are distrusting is disgusting. Times like that are when the cycle of doubt seems to go.

But, don't hold on to them; they will be more than happy to hang around you till you take a long walk off a short pier. And, verbalizing them gives your reason a chance to step up to the plate and neutralize the fear that's holding you back.

Use Your Head!

The three steps to convince your doubts to take a hike are these. (1), Ask yourself questions! Remember to do this audibly. The questions you ask yourself are to cause you to focus on the "facts". Keep this in mind! You are not trying to change your belief; the purpose is to sharpen your mind.

You want the ability to make decisions that are in your favor and that's where the questions come in. Questions that are in search of the truth are perfectly normal response doubts. The doubts that are detrimental, i.e., becoming a way of life, are the ones that you lovey dovey up to after you have settled the second step.

(2), Find an answer! Once an answer is determined, is no sign that the doubts will wear out their welcome. In fact, they probably will give you just as many opportunities to doubt your answer and then the cycle starts all over again with the next set of circumstances.

Bet Your Bottom Dollar!

Now, this is the critical junction: at this point you must step back and say wait a minute. This crap could go on forever, and, it could if you let it. The purpose of the three steps is to make sure you have discovered all the facts. Once the facts have come to light then you should find your answer with bated breath.

If the best answer is not clear then go back through the question steps till they are. You must not allow an answer to go unfound. It's there no matter what the situation. Life never leaves us with no way out or answers to our questions. It might make you feel like you're only a little bit pregnant, but keep looking, it's there.

At The End Of The Day!

(3), The most important of the steps! Once the answer is discovered, start taking action. And, remember this; you still may have some doubts till the goal or dream has completed. But, they will diminish as you are moving toward the goal line. But, they will get hotter than a nanny goat in a pepper patch if you sit still.

Don't Let The Door Hit You Where The Good Lord Split You!

I knew precisely what I wanted. I felt that success was only inches away. The excitement in my body was beginning to feel like electricity surging through my veins. Watching the events, as they unfolded, from the prevailing conditions my spirit was screaming; "Don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you." So, guess what?

I'll tell you in a bit.

He met the challenge to change with a dogged determination. Change is a part of life. And, a guy named Charlie did it his way for most of his early life-Wrong! Refusing to accept the cycles that come and go and cause change, will undo the best laid plans of mice and men.

He was born in poverty. In elementary school the sold newspapers and shined shoes. After he quit school he got involved with hoboes and derelicts. He gambled, got involved with drug smuggling, was captured and sentenced to prison at twenty one years old.

Why? Charlie, , lived to be 79 years old and died in the mid 1950's. He said before he died, those early years were a time of rebellion and refusing to change. And that refusal to change brought the problems he encountered.

While in prison, Charlie had a lot of time to think. I guess so. He found out what it was like to cut off his nose to spite his face. Not too much fun. But, I'm sure none of you have ever been that stiff-necked, have you? Yeah, ok, right.

A Rose By Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet!

Something happened to Charlie one day while in the cesspool of liberation. Oh, yeah, he was a "janitorial engineer". You know, it's funny, but some of my most outstanding successes, I have ever made, came while I was in the cesspool of liberation. There's just something about that place that brings about an amazing willingness to change.

Charlie completely changed the direction of his aggressive personality. He quit hating the Judge that sentenced him, he forgave the federal agents who caught him and brought about all his troubles. He took a very good look at the Charlie of the past and resolved to avoid even the very appearance of evil.

This change in Charlie's attitude also brought about a remarkable change in his behavior. Isn't that amazing? Yeah, right. He began to read books that gave him inspiration, guidance and help. He could feel changes taking place inside of him that he couldn't explain. But, he knew something good was happening.

A Feather In His Cap!

Because of these changes, he began to get the favorable attention of the prison officials. As fate would have it, Charlie got paroled and got a job as... guess what? Yeah, a janitor. Well, I guess it's better than a slap upside the head with a wet fish. But, anyway, Charlie had a changed attitude, so slopping around in a toilet was not going to chap his rear. No pun intended. :>) hehehe!

Well, as fate would have it, Charlie, with his new attitude, worked for this company for many years before he died and finished as the president of the company. Yeah, an ex-con convicted of drug smuggling. And, you know why? Cause he learned he didn't have to let the door hit him, where the good Lord split him.

Ants In His Pants!

You remember where I left you in the first paragraph? I do. Hehehe. There was this problem that was crawling all over me like ants. I was doing everything I could to brush them off. Then all of a sudden the cycle turned and it was like coming back from a thirty point deficit in a New York minute.

I began to think about the story of Charlie. And, I knew that door was behind me, I knew what I wanted and was determined to get it. I also knew that the proverbial door back there was just waiting to give me the "big pain in my neck".

Then one phrase that came to mind was all it took to see the light and cause that door to begin fading away in the horizon. "Blow this, and you'll repeat the test". Yep, that's all it took. I have learned that every time I "blow a test", by refusing to change, , I get to go through the test again.

Same old test, getting a zero every time. Sometimes it's hard to let go of an obsession and accept the fact that "something" is changing. But, one of the smartest things you can do for yourself is, not to become your own worst enemy.

Change is a universal law. It's like gravity. It's like H20 making water. And, things are going to change even if you refuse. Remember, the cesspool of liberation is always waiting to welcome you if need some friendly persuasion. And, I know from personal experience that it often only takes the willingness to change to turn failure into success.

Change And Conquer!

So, being the humble student of the "test" that I have so often failed, I told myself, not this time. I'm going to see the change, accept the change, not refuse to change, and come out of this on top. And you know; it was really exciting watching the circumstances concede to my desire, and the door not hitting me in the rear, "for a change".

Some people say, "I have a problem, that's awful". I say, "I have a problem, that's good". I have learned to anticipate the downward cycle that will inevitably come, and to prepare to go upward and outward to avoid that door. If you will make a decision to accept changing cycles, and you change when the cycle changes, you can then play with the big dogs.

Every living organism, be it people, businesses, nations, nature, whatever, every thing goes through cycles. They grow to a point, sometimes maturity, then levels off and dies.

If you learn to anticipate these, look for them, not be afraid of them, then you can meet the challenge of change with new ideas, new blood, new energy, and a new attitude. An "attitude" that is daring a door to even look at your rear-end like it wants some of it. :>)

Do What You Are Afraid To Do! But, Do It With A Parachute!

There are many ways for us to gain information and knowledge. The two predominant ways are by education and experience. For most of my life I have chosen to go the hard route; by doing! I followed the principle; do what you're afraid to do, go where you're afraid to go, and always wear a parachute.

Their Bark Was Worse Than Their Bite!

When you shy away from doing something big, just because it's big, you miss a lot of opportunities. Many years ago when I first went into sales, I would shy away from approaching anyone that was in a big building. I have no idea what the size of the building had to do with it; it was just a fear of something "big."

Later on I realized that all those men in those big fancy buildings put their pants on just like I did, one leg at a time, and I had no reason to be afraid of them. But, still, I was as nervous as a long tail cat in a dark room full of rocking chairs.

So, what did do? I would look for the little mom and pop establishments that would not intimidate me. At these small businesses is where I learned to neutralize my fears. And as time went along I realized that the big businesses held a lot of opportunity.

The reason they did, was because I found out that other salesmen were also afraid to go in there. So, it created some very easy and fertile ground to make some substantial sales at. Ironically, the sales resistance in the large businesses is less than the small ones because the small ones are solicited all the time.

At The End Of The Day!

When you allow fear to control your movements you make a lot of mistakes. Example: Fear has never done anything good for you. Now I'm not talking about common sense. It's not fear that keeps me from jumping off a ten story building or running in front of a speeding locomotive. It's good ole common horse sense.

When a decision is made from fear, you generally find there is no basis for the fear. There is usually no dragon there about to eat you, no Indians on the war-path about to scalp you, so there is just no basis for not doing what you are afraid of.

Most of the time, the reason we don't choose the big task is because we don't know how to accomplish it. There is a saying that goes; "it's one thing to talk about bull fighting, it's another thing to get in the ring with that bull."

Just Beat Around The Bush!

If you don't know how to fight that bull, you just better talk about it for awhile. Or, you better find a matador to teach you on a mechanical bull first. Maybe a baby one! :>)

Just one word of advice; if you decide you want to do something "big" in the next thirty days, like becoming a matador, then I would suggest that if you want to meddle in the affairs of a big black bull, that you remember; you are crunchy and you could taste real good with ketchup.

But, barring any decision to be a matador, every decision you've ever made out of fear was a minor accomplishment. Let that sink in. Think about it; when was the last time you had a choice to make between something big and something small and you chose the easy, small, route?

Easy As Pie!

You shied away from the "big" hard looking difficult task because the easy task looked like a piece of cake; a cinch. And what you were really doing was just looking for an easy quick victory. Let's face it, we've all done it because a victory always feels good and nobody is going to call us "dummy".

But the raw hard facts are; unless we take on the big challenge, we'll never really know if it would have been a victory too. In my own experience, I learned that the big buildings were where most of the discretionary money was and I never did find a big black bull in there. :>).

But, unless I had neutralized the fear of the "big" that was controlling me, I never would have found out that great successes and victories can come from doing what I was afraid to do, and going where I was afraid to go.

I Saw The Light!

So, what was it that neutralized the fear? It was know-how! I didn't say "knowledge." There is a huge difference between knowledge and know-how. The difference is the difference between success and failure.

You can have a head full of knowledge but with no know-how you will still fail. The word "know-how" does not just mean knowing how to do something. That's knowledge. Know-how means doing that "something," and, doing it right with skill and effectiveness.

When you have acquired know-how you will do that "something" right again and again. It will become a habit, and you'll do it naturally with ease and grace. There will not be any struggle; the struggle is over. That's in the past. You only gain know-how by "doing." The experience must be your very own.

You Don't Need To Know All The Answers!

To solve your problem or reach your goal, don't let the fear of not knowing all the answers in advance stop you. You will never know all the answers until you start.

Awaken The Sleeping Attitude Within You!

I have made the statement numerous times that; "You are the most important living person." Take some time and think about yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror and see how long you can stare without walking away. If less than five minutes, then you need an attitude adjustment.

One In A Million!

Think about it, in all of history there has never been another person exactly like you. That's scary. No, I'm just kidding. You are very unique, you are very personal, and you are very emotional. What makes you so unique? It's the sleeping giant that inhabits you.

Actually, you have two giants inside you and they are; your consciousness and sub-consciousness. The conscious giant only benefits you when you are awake. The sub-conscious or the great sleeping giant is our 24/7 buddy.

What this means is; we are the product of our environment, our physical body, heredity, and our particular place in time and space. We have the power within us to harmonize with our entire environment and to direct our thoughts, and control our emotions which will ordain our destiny.

You Are A Mind With A Body!

Sounds like something from a Boris Korloff movie. But, that's exactly what we are. And, it is the greatest design in history. Our mind is made up of these two giant powers that are designed to work in harmony with all the elements of our environment.

The problem is; when these two powers inside of us are not working harmoniously together, we experience frustration and anxiety. The conscious mind is always trying to be the bully and have his way. The sub-conscious is a quiet gentleman and always trying through very soft urgings, to get us to listen to him.

Well, what do we do? The best answer is to pay attention to both, and not do anything wrong. Yeah, right! Seriously, your body can't do anything without your conscious mind having first set the stage, so, the most important thing is to listen to both and then take action.

As the movement takes place, circumstances and results, or the lack of, will tend to direct our decisions from there. As more information is gathered we will be more certain of whether we have made the right move. If not, make adjustments in our actions.

The Burning Question!

The problem is; we know how to listen to our conscious mind, but, most of the time, we don't know how to listen to our sub-conscious mind. And, it's the sub-conscious, where the giant sleeping attitude is formed that drives the action. And, without the right attitude behind the action, you'll be a few fries short of a happy meal.

The sub-conscious is the emotional powerhouse behind whatever we do. Remember, emotions are just "feelings"; the way you "feel" about something. The sub-conscious can make our actions feel like we're riding on a cloud, or gritting our teeth through the whole ordeal.

We have all done things that we did joyfully, and we have all done things that just chapped our rear.

Get To The Bottom Of It!

Well, what was the reason we got so chapped on one and did the other so happily? Was it the "act" itself? Nope, the action itself had nothing to do with it. For every action you hate, I'll bet we can find someone that loves it.

What happened was, and this is a simplified example; the conscious mind makes the decision we must do something. Then the sub-conscious tells us how to feel when we do it. Now, here is where the war begins.

The conscious mind does not like unpleasant feelings. And, the conscious mind gets all bent out of shape when the sub-conscious serves us up a platter of ugly feelings. Then our conscious mind gets angry and blames the job or "action" we're performing. So, we conclude, we don't like this activity. It's not the action, it's the feeling we don't like.

Not To Mince Matters!

But, the sub-conscious mind couldn't care less. After all, it never gets blamed for anything. It is just doing what it has been previously programmed to do. So "we", being the mind with a body, think it's the "action" that is disgusting.

So, we grit our teeth and do the unpleasant action; All the time thinking I detest having to do this. No, it's not the action you detest, it's the feeling you don't want. Remember, somewhere, somebody, would love to do it.

I know what you're thinking, so let them do it. Well, that's a possibility, if you can find someone who will do it for you. But, if you can't, you only have two choices. Either do it grudgingly, or "reframe" the action in your sub-conscious so the next time it will serve up a platter of happy feelings. The sub-conscious doesn't care.

The Door Of Opportunity!

How do I reframe this idea in my sub-conscious? I'm glad you asked. One good way is to look for someone who likes doing this and ask them; what is it they like about this action? If you can't find someone, then use a daily affirmation to convince the sub-conscious to feel positive emotions and send those emotions to the conscious.

Example: I love "whatever". And, from now on I will feel happy and energized when I do it. And, every time I think about "whatever", positive emotions will become permanent in my mind. Do not say things like this; I will "not" feel ugly, bad, depressed, etc. . . The sub-conscious tends to ignore the "negatives" and then reframes and reinforces the rest of the affirmation.

Now beware, the sub-conscious is not going to serve up a dose of positive emotions on day one and make you feel like tip-toeing through the tulips. By the same token, it will not refuse to change either. It just has to be persuaded convincingly that the conscious mind wants to feel differently. And, depending on how much you really detest this action, could take varying amounts of time to change it.

Most any emotion can be changed in thirty days with this affirmation technique. It is amazing, but you can actually love something thirty days from now that you detest today. Don't tell me you don't believe it, because I'll bet there is someone reading this that never thought they would love vegetables. When I was a kid I thought I would live off hamburgers the rest of my life.

Egg On My Face!

Why, I used to cuss vegetables. I thought they were a Chinese conspiracy sent over here to make Kudzu vines grow in my belly. And, wouldn't you know it, today, I'm a vegetarian. Go figure!

Avoid This Tendency And You'll Press Beyond Your Limits!

Inside of every one of us is the desire to press beyond our own limitations. Just forty years ago, the goal to land on the moon was a huge step for mankind. Now, we've gone beyond the moon and the end is nowhere in sight. But, consider this: Every challenge we face, can be stopped dead in its tracks with one little undesirable tendency. Hmm...

As Dead As Dead Can Be!

Many people allow themselves to be de-railed by their opportunities. They look at their short comings and limitations and say, "I'm too young", "I'm too old", "I'm too uneducated", "I don't have enough money", I'm too much of this", and "I'm too little of that". Blah, Blah.

Let me give you a perfect example of what I'm talking about. You remember the story of Abraham in the Bible? He was told he would become the father of many nations. But, when he was told that, he was already seventy five years old.

Now, looking at this in the natural way of thinking, you tell me how a seventy five year old man could be the father of anything, especially a nation. And naturally thinking; how was that grandma, he was married to, going to give birth to a nation?

He Never Was The Sharpest Tool In The Shed!

And, the Bible says she was barren. Well, here is this old man and he thinks he's the father of many nations. He even went around telling everyone he met, "I'm the father of many nations". You can imagine how people must have looked at him.

They probably thought all of that old man's wealth has made him crazy. Well, Abraham's got a problem or opportunity if you will. He knows what his limitations are. He knows his body is beyond the time of fathering a child, and he knows his wife is barren.

But, Abraham didn't think of the condition of his body or his wife's barren condition. In other words, he avoided the tendency to make "excuses" for his limitations. Now get this: Abraham did have a child and, by his barren wife.

That Takes The Cake!

But, he was one hundred years old before the child was born. And, this is the part I'm amazed with; He waited twenty five years and kept believing that he was the father of many nations. I sometimes think I've gone the limit when I've waited twenty five minutes. But, the point is; he didn't make excuses for his limitations.

He couldn't afford to. Abraham was no different than we are. If he had considered his wife and his own body, there is no way that old man could have kept saying "I'm the father of many nations" for twenty five years! He would have been just like some of us and quit after three days.

Abraham could have said, "I'm too old", "my wife is too old", . You see, his wife was ninety years old when the child was born! Don't you know she was surprised? When she went into labor she probably thought she had appendicitis. Nah, I'm kidding.

Now I know that this is an extreme example, but, still the same, excuses are part of our natural tendencies no matter how extreme they are.

The Conventional Wisdom!

The more challenging the situation, the more the excuses seem to have an insatiable desire to rear their ugly head. Check up on yourself sometime. What is the first knee-jerk reaction that you find coming out of you when you first face some challenge that has to be handled. Now, you may have trained yourself to avoid excuses, and I commend you for that.

But, if not, It seems that excuses are the first thing we start looking for to see if we can get out of it, or find a real easy way to solve it. If we don't think of a real easy way to solve it, we focus on excuses to get out of it.

You Need Excuses Like A Kangaroo Needs A Purse!

If you believe you have some limitation that is holding you back, then you are making excuses. The only real limitations we have are in our own mind. If we think about the limitations more than we think about how to solve it, then we have excuseitus.

Excuseitus can have a far reaching effect into areas of our lives that we know we can handle. But, it becomes so easy to "make excuses" that we will start making them all the time, because now, it seems so natural to do so.

You can look at limitations as a sort of a test; A test of your tenacity. Fail the test, and you get to take it over again. :>(. And over and over. Every time you get a zero you get put back in the first grade.

Your Tower Of Strength!

And, guess what? Even if the outcome is not what you wanted, you will feel so good that you pressed beyond the limit, that when the next test comes, you're more confident, composed, determined, and relentless.

At that point, the final outcome is not the real focus and goal. Then what is? Your faith and determination that you can press beyond any limits you have in your mind! When you get there, you'll start reaching for the stars, instead of the ceiling.

Go ahead; shoot for the stars, what if you miss it half way? It's better than shooting for the ceiling and missing it half way. Somebody said; what if I fail? So what! Join the club. The thing can't eat you! Besides, you never really have a failure; you have only discovered another way that it wouldn't work.

Will Wonders Never Cease!

And, besides, I have experienced situations where no matter what I did worked. But, then something else came along and I discovered I was happier with the last thing than I would have been with the first one. Go figure.

Limitations will shout "you can't"! But, how do you really know if all you do is sit down and have a discourse with your limitations. They will win every time. Don't ever "reason" with your excuses. If you do, you'll come up with more excuses; ones that you thought you would never think of.

Your Mission In Life!

If you don't focus on your limitations and make excuses, you can take what little resources you do have and, just by beginning, you'll find many times that your efforts are making giant strides. And, you'll find yourself pressing beyond those self-imposed limitations.

Are Your Dreams A Day Late And A Dollar Short?

One of the greatest challenges facing our ever intensive quest for the impossible dream is to make it across the finish line even if it's only by the skin of our teeth. Many outstanding accomplishments have been started just to see our vision die one foot short of the goal line. Sound familiar? Don't get your knickers in a twist; here's an idea.

Cry Me A River!

Have you ever experienced this? Maybe a dream or desire that you have had your heart set on suddenly drops square in the lap of some bozo that couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag. Suddenly, your dream is now the property of someone else and all the nice things you used to think about that person now just took a hike.

Did you know one of the best tests of our character is when we face the fiery furnace of failure? Especially when that furnace burns up our dream just inches before we take it to the bank.

Many pursuits, that we chase, seem to stop dead in their tracks almost at the very beginning. That's probably a blessing in disguise. If every thing we pursued, or most every thing, all came unraveled at the very end, we probably would go nuts.

Just getting that close to the prize creates such anticipation, that if almost all of them flopped, we would probably stop trying just to avoid the emotional trauma. But, life is kind to us to prevent us from putting forth that much effort, consistently, and then see our dream land in the lap of someone else.

Don't Look A Gift Horse In The Mouth!

Now, you see, you thought life was mean to you. But, the other way of looking at it is; it spared us from getting to the one foot line and then blowing up in our face.

I am not a huge baseball fan but I heard the story of Babe Ruth and the great success he had in his career. It was a super accomplishment to have hit over seven hundred home runs in his life in the major leagues. But, he also struck out over fourteen hundred times.

There was a particular game that Babe struck out every time he got up to the plate, except the last time. And, in this game every time he got up he swung at the ball so hard that he fell in the dirt. A newspaper reporter told Babe he should not swing so hard. Babe said, "Ah, don't pity me, pity those poor pitchers".

Some Good News And, Some Bad News!

As I thought about my life in business I think that's about the ratio that holds true; Two failures for every success. Some successes were gigantic, some were mediocre, and some were heart breaking. Of course the heart breaking ones are the big failures.

Some failures are labeled failures too quickly. Many times I have seen something wonderful happen long after I had destined some dream to the garbage dump. Then something happened that resurrected that puppy and seemed to breathe life back into it.

At that moment a breath of life and enthusiasm seemed to overtake me and, I found myself buzzing around like a swarm of hornets to put that dream back in the winners circle.

Dead As A Dodo!

I know this has happened to many people. But, why? Here is my personal observation. Many times we get so caught up in a situation we no longer can see the situation. Then something happens and the dream meets the deadline of death.

At that point we lick our wounds for awhile and go on to the next dream. Well, now we are out of the situation, we are not even thinking about that dream anymore. We are completely divorced from the dream and have no feelings about it one way or the other mentally or emotionally.

Maybe there is some wisdom here we need to get a hold of. Anything in this world we put more of our body mind soul and spirit into, than where they should be, stands the "chance" of being ripped out of our hands. And, when the ripping is over we realize we were only a day late and a dollar short.

A Word To The Wise!

That's when we get into this syndrome; If only, If only, If only; the stage of regrets. Well, what's the answer? It can be very difficult to walk a very fine line of between adequate commitment and self-serving irresponsibility. And, sometimes we have crossed that line long before we realize it.

Then the only way we find out where we are is when the dream is losing that "look of success". If a dream is in danger of slipping away from you, the first thing I would do is an honest assessment of my commitment to it. Contrary to popular opinion, you can destroy your own dreams by setting them up as idols in your life.

I know I've done it. No one is slick enough to always know when they have crossed the line between adequate commitment and self-serving irresponsibility, so don't expect to. But, look at your behavior and most of the time you can tell. I warn you; it's very difficult to ease off if you think you have crossed the line, because of your existing momentum

Pain In The Neck!

Most of the time, the dream itself will have to back you off by showing you the signs of hopelessness; not a very empowering feeling. You will see small personality changes such as: over aggressiveness, temper outbursts, no time for anyone else, everyone else is wrong, and constantly thinking about money or the lack of it.

If any of these personality traits seem to be exhibiting themselves in you, I would bet a dollar to a doughnut you have an idol in your life. There is something that you have given your body mind and soul to and it's turning around to bite you.

Remember earlier in this article when we talked about the person who ended up with the dream you wanted and seemly didn't even have to lift a finger to get it? It just dropped in their lap. Do you see now what might have happened? It was one of those paradoxes of life that makes about as much sense as a screen door on a submarine...

Lighter Than Air!

It was not an idol to them. They were not possessed to the point of selling out every thing else in life that has meaning. So, the dream just flowed naturally and easily in their direction. Will it always happen this way? Don't you wish?

But, I can leave you with this final thought. Any dream that you are pursuing right now that seems to possess your soul, turn down the fiery furnace of desire. And, even if you don't achieve it, you won't risk turning your personality into a Frankenstein. And, who knows, it just might drop in your lap.

And then My Boss said, Take that Fear and Shove it!

Hey gang; Ok it's time to create some good habits. You know, like eating a pork barrel full of Ben and Jerry's ice cream at 3 am in the morning. Nah......that's not the kind of habit I'm talking about. The only habit that will create is a quick trip to the toilet first thing in the morning.

To create a personal success system that never fails requires good habits. Without good habits, you will default to bad habits.

I say this all the time....When you go after something don't come back till you get it. Let me illustrate. In the sales profession, people are taught never ask a prospect for his time. Take it; they're taught.

Well, if you think about it, then success in anything you're doing can be boiled down to a scientific formula. Failure can also be boiled down to a formula. Apply the one, avoid the other. Sounds simple, right?

Then why do so darn many people fail when attempting something worthwhile? Why do so many find themselves sucking wind and always ending up the tail instead of the head? Michael Jordan said it best. "I have failed over and over again in my life, and THAT is why I succeed.

Then why do so few people achieve what Michael Jordan has? Fear of failure. No body likes to fail. But failure is only temporary as long as we take another stab at what we're doing.

You say though........yea, but I'm the one that's been stabbed. Ok, so what makes you so special? You think Elvis never failed? You think Henry Ford never failed? What causes failure anyway?

Timidity and Fear! Yuk! I knew you were going to say that.

Yea, that's right. Let me illustrate. I knew a guy a few years ago that was hard up for a job. He told me someone suggested he sell insurance. Yuk, he said, why don't I just slit my wrist? But he said, I can't even get a job driving a garbage truck, so, he did take a job selling insurance.

He said I was scared stiff. He had never sold anything in his life. So, his manager told him, "I'll give you five names everyday to call on. Just make sure to see these people the very same day. He promised and went home to study his sales material.

Everyday for a week, he made several sales, and then, something interesting happened. His sales manager was in a meeting and could not give him his five names to call on.

He told him to go to the yellow pages and find the names of five owners and call on them. He said that's what I've been doing for the last week. And his sales manager said these words to him. "Success is a matter of mental attitude." YOUR attitude. And, your entire career will depend on your attitude.

He said I went out there with the same attitude with the names I selected as I had with the names that my sales manager had picked for me.

Then he said I learned an important lesson about timidity and fear. First of all I recognized fear is nature's way of keeping me from harm, particularly when I don't know what's waiting for me.

He learned that fear could be a destructive emotion. So destructive that it could paralyze the biggest of men. Success is achieved by those who try. If there is nothing significant to lose by trying and a lot to gain by trying, by all means, try.

And, the emotion of fear will be neutralized as you begin to try. Not as you sit on your rear eating that pork barrel full of ice cream and wish and hope.

Another illustration from my personal experience. Many of you know I am a recording artist and my passion is music. People all the time think that "some" people are just gifted to sing and perform. If they only knew. When I first started singing, I would go to night clubs that sponsored karaoke or open mic nights and sing.

When I first started, I would sit in my seat hoping the DJ would lose my slip of paper with my name on it so he couldn't call me up there. Of course, no one else knew this. Ha! After I would sing one song, the back of my neck would be dripping with perspiration after only a 3 minute song. Just from nervousness. I felt like a long tailed cat in a dark room full of rocking chairs.

The more I did this, the less nervousness I had. Then one day, no more perspiration. What neutralized the fear? Action. I learned the emotion of fear was not subject to reason. I reasoned there was no need to be afraid. I mean it was not like I was facing a firing squad; no one was about to shoot me. Or, make ME eat that pork barrel full of ice cream. I had NO reason to be afraid. But, the fear was still there.

So, I learned an important psychological principle. Fear is not subject to reason, but it is subject to action. When your thoughts will not rid you of an undesirable emotion, action will. I found out I could talk to myself till I was wacky, and could not talk away the fear. It just doesn't work like that. I learned that fear was not conducive to giving my best performance.

So Homer,......... Sing to Win they said!!

In the very highly competitive game of Internet Marketing you play according to the rules, and you must not violate the standards of net-etiquette. To do so, will brand you a scammer, and a spammer, and who knows what else, maybe a jackass.

You become a success at whatever you're doing in this game by trying, and trying, and keep on trying. Then eventually work is fun, life is worth living, and you begin attracting like a magnet all you desire including money. Money is NOT attracted to negative behavior.
